Phase 1 · Fluency & Clarity Day 7 of 30

Day 7: Phase 1 Review & Mock GD

Consolidate all six Phase 1 skills and conduct a timed mock GD demonstrating every technique learned in Week 1.

Core Concept
You have completed Phase 1. Before advancing to consulting thinking in Phase 2, measure and consolidate. Phase 1 Checklist: ✓ Day 1: English-first thinking — Ambient Narration habit started ✓ Day 2: Filler reduction — know your patterns and the PAR system ✓ Day 3: PREP method — structure any opinion in 45 seconds ✓ Day 4: 3-Point Structure — hold a 2.5-minute signposted answer ✓ Day 5: Vocal confidence — pace, pause, pitch are deliberate choices ✓ Day 6: Active listening — respond to others, not just speak at them These six skills are your communication foundation. If any feel weak, revisit that day before advancing. Everything in Phases 2, 3, and 4 builds on these.
Consulting Framework
PHASE 1 COMPETENCY MAP

FOUNDATIONAL (must be solid before Phase 2):
→ Zero-filler speaking (Day 2) — improves everything else
→ PREP method automatic recall (Day 3) — must not require thinking

DEVELOPING (will strengthen through the course):
→ English-first thinking (Day 1) — takes 3–4 weeks to fully rewire
→ Vocal authority (Day 5) — improves with every exercise
→ 3-Point Structure (Day 4) — becomes automatic with practice
→ Active listening (Day 6) — sharpens with every GD
Real Example
Applied Example

A well-executed Phase 1 performance in a GD: [Clear entry within 20 seconds]: "I believe India's digital payments revolution is the most significant financial inclusion event of the last decade." [Signposted reason]: "Two reasons support this." [Point 1 with data]: "First, scale — UPI processed ₹200 lakh crore in FY24, exceeding the combined volume of all other Asian payment systems." [Point 2]: "Second, inclusion — 300 million new bank accounts under Jan Dhan now have actual utility through UPI." [Active Bounce]: "I want to build on Ananya's concern about cybersecurity — UPI's fraud rate is below 0.005%, lower than card fraud. The safety argument strengthens the case, not weakens it."

Daily Exercise — Step by Step
  1. Rate yourself 1–5 on each Phase 1 skill: English-first thinking, Filler removal, PREP speed, 3-Point structure, Vocal authority, Active listening.
  2. Identify your two lowest-scored skills. Go back to those days and redo the core exercise.
  3. Set up a 15-minute mock GD with 2–4 friends. Use the topic below. Record the full session.
  4. After the mock: each participant self-rates on all 6 Phase 1 skills. Compare self-perception to how you actually sounded on the recording.
  5. Write 200 words: 'The most important habit I have built in Week 1, and the one I still need to work on most.'
GD Simulation Topic
Today's Group Discussion Topic
"India's decision to ban Chinese apps after Galwan was good policy but bad economics — the government should revisit this decision."

Full integration GD: enter within 30 seconds using PREP or 3-Point opening, make at least one active listening Bounce, attempt a synthesis near the end, no fillers, varied pitch, at least two deliberate pauses after strong points. Record everything.

Consulting Case Question

A leading Indian FMCG company launches a premium personal care line for men. Six months in, sales are 30% below projection. Product quality is rated highly in surveys. What are the possible reasons for underperformance, and how would you investigate each?

💡 Hint: Use Phase 1 skills to communicate the answer: PREP for your opening hypothesis, 3-Point Structure for your investigation framework, and Active Listening if discussing in a group — reference what others say before adding your own analysis.

Speaking Practice Drill

The Phase 1 Integration Drill: Speak for 4 minutes on 'What Tier 2–3 MBA students need to do differently to compete with IIM graduates in placements.' Demonstrate all 6 Phase 1 skills: zero fillers, PREP for at least one argument, 3-Point for the overall answer, controlled pace and pitch, and active engagement with at least one counterargument. Record. Review.

Self-Evaluation Table

Rate yourself honestly on today's performance. Track this across 30 days to measure growth.
